Playing Pretend In Class
I can’t stand school, but it’s forced upon me.
The infantilism, stupid group projects, annoying little kids…
I’m too old for this shit. Too old to mold, too old to fool into believing strange things.
The weird bearded dude preaching to me in the courtyard, the odd literary instructor yelling about Shakespeare.
It’s all too much, I’m not young anymore. I wish I was more impressionable. More amendable to suggestion, more foldable within the mandated office hours alongside the nutty professor.
I’m a rock nowadays. Almost thirty, a veteran… an asshole. A grumpy young man, an old young man…
Deployed, overused, under-enthused… never bemused by little tricks and gambits.
Snide little comments roll away, cunning attempts to piss me off never stay.
Just give me the degree already, I’m not here to play.
