Why I Go To The Chess Club

After writing 30 books, l've become completely unrelatable.

When I was young, I used to believe that intelligence was everything. That anything could be overcome with enough thinking, enough effort, and enough hard work.

I was foolish to believe that the randomness of life could be fully grasped and contained with enough intellectual force, strategy, and cunning. However, it's been made clear to me now. That there are realms that the intellect simply cannot conquer. For its power is greatly limited against the random nature of the world. Dumb wars, obnoxious innuendos, social games, bad drivers, and politicians are far too hard to predict. They fuzz the lens of calculation, infuriate rationality, and baffle the most brilliant of plans.

It is only at the chessboard that I can truly relax. That I may find people of normalcy. That I may finally find a moment of solace, a nugget of peace in a world so filled with confusion. It allows my sanity to find refuge, a place of order in a zoo overflowing with irrational exuberance.

"The sane play chess, paint, write, and live passionately. The others go mad from sedation."
