To Go Still, Forever

The grass bends,

It leans,

It breaks.

This is the way it goes.

When the age comes,

When the joints crack,

When the back snaps.

In the moonlight,

In laden snow,

And no one will know,

Your history,

They’ll never see,

Your misery,

The heartbreak,

The quiet aches,

The shattered dreams,

What you wanted to be,

Now they’ll never see.

So there you lie,

In that crumpled state,

Without debate,

With that blank stare,

Peering into nowhere,

As you,

As I,

As we,

Go still forever…
